This hand carved solid-body guitar is a rare find - 2010 ‘Scepter”
built by Puerto Rican born luthier -Abe Rivera. This model was played by guitar virtuoso Pat Martino and also by Kevin Eubanks, who is known for his
band leadership on the Jay Leno Show.

It has a 3-piece laminated flame maple “neck through
body design” with a flame maple wood center strip, and it features a rare and beautiful
hand-carved  spalted maple face and
back finished in a stunning variation of green tones! There is an ornamental floral
carving at the bottom center of the face below the tailpiece and also a hand-carved
heart at the back of the headstock. The sides are a ply sequence of maple and ebony.
The fingerboard has 22 frets overall, with 7 colorful abalone block-marker
inlays and one oval inlay on the 12th fret. The pickup bezel
(surround) is carved ebony, as is the pickguard, which is held in place by a
gold plated side L-bracket and one screw near the fretboard end. Tuners are
Schaller gold-plated sealed-backs with large gold metal buttons. On the back of
the body is a maple cavity cover matching the spalted maple grain and finish.

The roller bridge is a Schaller tune-o-matic type,
with adjustable string spacing. The asymmetrical bridge base is carved ebony
and the nut is carved of bone. The single neck Attila Zoller pickup has been replaced with a DP192 Air Zone model
jazz humbucker made by DiMarzio. Even the truss rod cover, pointed like a
knight’s helmet and held in place by a single screw, is of ebony. The knobs are
hand-made of ebony and each one is individually inlaid with an abalone dot in
the center. The face of the guitar is bordered in a continuous strip of
hand-inset abalone. Abe indicated that due to the nature of the exotic spalted
maple, the carved logo in the headstock typically reading “Abe Rivera” with a
heart around the “Ri” in Rivera, is not present. However, the proprietary
tailpiece is gold plated, held in placed by six screws and is etched with “Abe
Rivera,” “Paz y Amor” – which means “Peace and Love”. The front of the guitar
is beautifully carved with what builders call a “recurve” in which the outer
edge is raised and then there is a carved trough and then the center of the top
is slightly arched. There is a standard gold jack on the lower treble side.

Mr. Rivera makes very few instruments these days. This new example
is both the progenitor of a formidable electric guitar-playing experience and,
at the same time, a genuine and exquisite work of art.

This turquoise, spalted maple, one-of-a-kind
“Scepter” is a new and very rare instrument from master luthier - Abe Rivera.
